About Tantalus Manor
Tantalus Manor is a 3-storey, affordable 40-unit, multi-family building that provides secure, stable housing for seniors, families, and essential workers in a neighborhood that is walking distance to essential amenities. Tantalus Manor was jointly purchased by Squamish Community Housing Society and Hiy̓ám̓ ta Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Housing Society (Hiy̓ám̓ Housing) in 2024 with a goal of preserving stable, and affordable rental homes in the Squamish Community. The building contains a mix of studios (4), 1-bedroom (6), 2-bedroom (27) and 3-bedroom (3) units.
Who is Hiy̓ám̓ Housing?
Founded in 2019 by Squamish Nation Council, Hiy̓ám̓ ta Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Housing Society is the not-for-profit organization responsible for building and managing affordable housing for Squamish Nation people.
Location
Tantalus Manor is centrally located centrally-located at 1098 Wilson Crescent in the Dentville neighborhood of Squamish. It is a short walk or bike from Downtown Squamish and adjacent to schools, childcare, bus transit, and other amenities.
The Energy Retrofit
In January 2026, Housing Squamish and Hiy̓ám̓ Housing announced a retrofit project to transition Tantalus Manor off fossil fuels and replace old systems with electric water heaters and heat pumps. The project will run from February to approximately September 2026.
A primary goal of the project is to convert the building from gas to electrical heat and hot water and improve the building’s air-tightness to improve the building’s energy efficiency and climate resiliency.
Residents will benefit from improved temperature regulation – including cooling in the summer – while new double-glazed windows and doors, energy recovery ventilators, and mini make-up air units in hallways will enhance efficiency and temperature, air circulation, and moisture control. Perhaps more importantly, tenants won’t be displaced from their units during or after the retrofit and rents will not be increasing as a result of the project.
