We work in partnership with local community-based service providers that also support housing in Squamish. Here are a few ways to get involved with these organizations in the upcoming months.
Squamish Helping Hands Society is a charitable organization that provides food, shelter, and a community of support to adults experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness. On February 24, they are participating in the annual Coldest Night of the Year event with the goal to raise $20,000. Teams, individuals, and businesses can register to raise funds and walk or can donate directly to the official Helping Hands Society team.
PearlSpace is a charitable organization focused on supporting women, 2STBQ+ folks, children, and youth who need emergency shelter, crisis support, referrals, and advocacy, and in particular, those who are victims of gender-based violence. They are currently calling out for donations of goods and services to include in their annual International Women’s Day virtual silent auction starting on March 8. If you are interested in donating, please contact kwalberg@pearlspace.ca before the end of February.
Sea to Sky Community Services provides over 40 social service programs, including housing resources and services, which strengthen individuals and build healthier communities throughout the Sea to Sky Corridor. They operate a number of affordable housing developments in Squamish, including Spirit Creek Apartments, which includes 76 market rentals, rent geared to income, and deep subsidy units, as well as fully accessible units. Read the stories of Katie and Mat, who call Spirit Creek home, and find out how you can get involved.
