Housing Squamish is excited to announce the expansion of our team, as we welcome two incredible new members: Rebecca Pousette and Carol Coffey.
Rebecca joins Housing Squamish with 12 years of leadership experience in the community housing sector, encompassing everything from operations oversight to not-for-profit development and front-line care. Notably, she played a key role in developing Co:Here Housing, an affordable housing community in East Vancouver designed to foster social connection. She also co-led the start-up of Co:Here Development Society, a non-profit real estate development consultancy.
Rebecca’s passion for creating stable homes is rooted in her belief that housing is essential for fostering a sense of belonging. She shares:
“I’m excited to work towards providing housing that enables more Squamish residents to feel a sense of stability here. I was drawn to working with the Housing Squamish team because it’s a group of people deeply committed to the community’s long-term well-being and willing to explore out-of-the-box ideas to bring the housing we need to this community.”
In her role as Housing Manager, Rebecca will focus on developing and overseeing Squamish’s tenant management and selection policy, while also overseeing building management.
Rebecca holds an MA from Regent College, and is currently completing her Masters in Urban Studies at Simon Fraser University.
Carol brings over 20 years of non-profit management experience to Housing Squamish, with a particular focus on building capacity for affordable housing development. Her previous experience with Squamish Helping Hands gave her firsthand insight into how vital safe and affordable housing is for the health and well-being of individuals and families.
Carol shares her thoughts on joining the team:
“Having been at the table when local housing providers aspired to collaborate on filling housing gaps in Squamish, it’s an honour to now be part of the team that is bringing affordable units out of the private market and into the hands of the community. It’s heartening and inspiring to work alongside so many brilliant and creative people who genuinely care about those struggling with the housing crisis.”
Carol’s extensive background spans animal welfare, homelessness, environmental justice, and social services. She also serves on the Board of the Squamish Community Foundation and co-authored the 2023 Squamish Vital Signs report. As our Operations Manager, Carol will support the day-to-day and long-term operations of the society, including finance, governance, and development.
We are thrilled to have both Rebecca and Carol on board and look forward to seeing the unique contributions they will bring to our team and community!
